All of the twenty-three official EU languages written in the roman alphabet are represented on this website, as well as some unofficial ones. Some of these are minority languages of France, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. One of these, Catalan, is spoken by more people than is spoken by the inhabitants of half a dozen EU member states. Another of them, Frisian, is included because of its close relationship to English, the global lingua franca.
You start by choosing your source language from a list of assorted proverbs in different languages. You then choose your target language - the one you are interested in - from the next list showing the one you had first chosen in its equivalent form in all other languages. This choice presents you with a list of proverbs in your target language. Selecting any of these reveals its translation and its equivalent in your source language.
If the selected proverb is followed by an asterisk (*) there is also a flashcard button clicking which reveals a question based on a word in the proverb, which is shown below the question with the relevant word removed.
